‘Turnaround’ successful…Anyang beats leader Gimcheon 2-0 to jump to 2nd place

FC Anyang succeeded in ‘turning the tide’.

Anyang won 2-0 against Gimcheon Sangmu in the 24th round of the Hana OneQ K League 2 2023 at Anyang Sports Complex on March 31. With three points in three games, Anyang (38 points) moved to within four points of leader Gimcheon (42 points). They are also tied with Gyeongnam FC and Busan I-Park for second place on goal difference with 38.

Anyang has been dealing with external issues since its Round 23 match against Busan I-Park (1-2 loss). Coach Lee Woo-hyung had expressed his intention to resign, but changed his mind at the urging of the club, especially the owner, Mayor Choi Max-ho, who posted a protest on social media over the refereeing issue against Busan.

A change of scenery was urgently needed. The tense standings battle continued. The cure for the mood was a win. Anyang was missing Lee Tae-hee, Koo Dae-young, and Kim Jung-hyun due to injury. The new faces brought in from the transfer market needed time to adjust, so the existing resources needed to step up.

Anyang attacked aggressively against Gimcheon, especially with the presence of frontline striker Bruno. Gimcheon struggled to contain Anyang’s defense, especially forward Cho Young-wook, who had scored in seven consecutive games before this match. In the 12th minute, Kim Hyun-wook’s corner kick was headed back by Lee Jun-seok, but it went just wide of the goal. 메이저사이트

Anyang had its best chance in the 23rd minute when Bruno’s left-footed shot went over the crossbar after receiving a pass from Ryu Seung-woo inside the penalty box. Anyang made a change in the 25th minute, removing U-22 players Moon Sung-woo and Choi Sung-beom and introducing Yago and Lee Dong-soo.
