The KT Wiz swept the Hanwha Eagles.
KT Wiz defeated Hanwha Eagles 7-2 in a home game of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Katie Wiz Park in Suwon, South Korea on Monday. With the win, KT made it two in a row and improved to 50 wins (2 ties, 44 losses) on the season. Hanwha, on the other hand, dropped its third straight game to fall to 50 losses (38 wins and 5 draws) on the season.
KT scored two runs in the first inning to take the lead. Kim Min-hyuk led off with an infield single and moved to second on a wild pitch. A batter later, Hwang Jae-gyun singled to put runners on first and third, and Park Byung-ho followed with a single to bring home Kim. Lee Ho-yeon singled to center field to bring home Hwang Jae-gyun.
After Hanwha pulled within one run in the top of the second with consecutive hits from Chae Eun-seong, Moon Hyun-bin, and Kim In-hwan, KT scored three more runs in the bottom of the inning to pull away from Hanwha. After Oh Yoon-seok singled to left and Kim Min-hyuk doubled to left to put runners on second and third, KT scored on Hwang Jae-gyun’s double and Park Byung-ho’s RBI single to make it 5-1.
In the fourth and fifth innings, KT scored one more run to extend their lead. In the fourth inning, Hwang Jae-gyun led off with a single to right and advanced to second on an error by the right fielder and came in on a single by Park Byung-ho. In the fifth inning, Kim Sang-soo led off with an infield single, advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Oh Yoon-seok and a grounder by the pitcher, and came home on a single by Kim Min-hyuk. The score was 7-1.
In the top of the ninth inning, Moon Hyun-bin singled against Ha Jun-ho, Choi Jae-hoon walked, and Ha Joo-seok was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Han Hwa scored one more run on Jung Eun-won’s push ball, but it was not enough to change the outcome of the game and KT’s victory was confirmed.
KT starter William Cuevas earned his fifth win of the season with seven innings of five-hit ball, striking out eight and walking one. After Cuevas, Son Dong-hyun, Ha Jun-ho, and Kim Young-hyun took the mound. Kim Young-hyun got the final two outs to earn his first career save. Hanwha starter Ricardo Sanchez, on the other hand, suffered the loss after giving up seven runs (six earned) in five innings in a 14-pitch outing. 메이저놀이터
In a KT batting lineup that pounded out 15 hits, Hwang Jae-gyun led the way with four hits, two RBIs and three runs scored, while Park Byung-ho combined for seven hits and five RBIs with three hits and three RBIs. First baseman Kim Min-hyuk also chipped in with three hits, one RBI and two runs scored. Hanwha managed just six hits in a scattered effort.
