SSG Landers head coach Kim Won-hyung was pleased with the performance of veteran right-hander Moon Seung-won in his return to the starting lineup.
On the day that SSG’s 13th game of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League season against the Kiwoom Heroes was rained out at SSG Landers Field in Incheon on April 29, Kim met with the media to reflect on the team’s last trip to Jamsil.
SSG finished the three-game series against the Doosan Bears with two wins and one loss. After suffering a 1-10 defeat on the first day of the three-game series, they won 7-5 on the 26th and 8-5 on the 27th to win two straight games.
Moon Seung-won started on the 27th. His first start in 117 days came to an end in the fourth inning when he gave up consecutive hits to Kang Seung-ho, Park Joon-young, and Ahn Seung-han and was relieved by Lim Jun-seop.
He threw 62 pitches in three innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with two walks and one strikeout. Kim said, “I felt good. I gave up a run, but it’s been a long time since I went up there and didn’t throw 70 pitches. I will start the next game as well,” Kim said.
He also noted that he didn’t walk many batters and didn’t give up many hits. “There were some things I missed,” Kim said, “but the pitch itself wasn’t bad. My control was good. I had good communication with my catcher, Lee Heung-ryun.”
Moon Seung-won started the season as the starting pitcher. After his first start on April 12, when he pitched eight scoreless innings for Samsung Electronics to win the game, Moon was moved to the bullpen after four starts until May 2, when he lost to KT (seven runs in 3⅓ innings).
The starting staff included two foreign pitchers, ace Kim Kwang-hyun, submarine Park Jong-hoon, and left-hander Oh Won-seok. Moon Seung-won readily agreed to Kim’s wishes to strengthen the bullpen.
However, when Jong-hoon struggled and was eventually sent back to the second team, Moon rejoined the starting lineup. 먹튀검증
Meanwhile, SSG was scheduled to start left-hander Oh Won-seok, but the game was canceled due to rain. Oh’s start was postponed. SSG’s starting pitcher on the 30th is foreign left-hander Kirk McCarty.
McCarty is 8-4 with a 2.51 ERA in 19 games this season. He picked up the win in NC on April 24 with 7⅓ innings of four-run ball. Ki is winless in his previous two starts with a 1.38 ERA.
